Hi there! Whether you’re new around here or a returning reader, thank you for being here! I’m so glad you’ve found your way back to Gem’s Little Bookshelf (or are checking it out for the first time!). This space has always been about more than just words on a page; it’s about sharing my thoughts, passions, and hopefully a few good laughs along the way as we begin this fresh chapter together.

So, who am I?
I’m Gem. I’m a freelance social media manager, writer, and avid tea and coffee drinker. I live for storytelling, connection, and digital creativity. I’ve been writing for Gems Little Bookshelf since January 2023 (a big secret: this isn’t my only blog), but, like many things in life, it has evolved, and so have I.
These days, I’m fully embracing the extraordinarily chaotic and (often entertaining) journey of building a creative life. I’m here to help others show up online with confidence, especially those who work in the alternative, NSFW, spicy realm (we all know it doesn’t really exist). Yeah, I’m an audio erotica enthusiast and a firm believer in creating open, pleasure-positive spaces. Well, I’m trying, which is a whole other story that’s still pending release.
I’m also a bit of a dreamer (you might have figured that already). I want to run a business that supports creators in all the ways the algorithm never will. Other days, I joke about becoming a porn star (don’t panic, it’s just a joke. Probably). Most days, I want to write, read, create and connect.
Get to Know Me (The Slightly Chaotic Edition)
Here are some random facts about me, you might or might not want to know, but it was fun thinking of them!
- I listen to audio erotica while working. Yes, really. And no, not the SFW kind, I’m not sorry.
- I’m a self-confessed music nerd, my favourite songs? I Need You Now by Lady A or She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5. You can definitely tell the kind of woman I am. Hahaha.
- I write dark romance because soft love is cute, but toxic chaos? That’s where my thoughts run wild.
- My favourite books of 2024 were Lights Out by Navessa Allen and For the Fans Nyla K. highly recommended. Honestly I have too many faves to choose but Still Beating by Jennifer Hartmann, is probably up there with the Boys of Tommen Series by Chloe Walsh.
- My comfort TV show is Criminal Minds (Spencer Reid, genius, awkward, and slightly unhinged? My type).
- My favourite voice actors? Oh, I have a small list…nope. Not telling. (But if you know, you know.)
- My ideal date? Coffee, a long walk, deep chats, and a cosy cuddle on the sofa, with snacks, obviously.
- I absolutely have a kink for praise and being called a good girl, I’m consistent if nothing else.
- I once said “I’m not into that” and then changed my mind after hearing it in the right voice…coughs* Cuckolding, breeding and hypno. (No judgement allowed). Hehehe.
- I have a degree in Event and Hospitality Management…which I now mostly use to organise digital content and flirt with the idea of a porn career. Not seriously. (Okay, maybe a little.)
- I’m the typical girl next door…until you realise I’m not. Hahaha.
- Coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon, wine in the “what is time anymore?”. Although my fave drink is a cuppa but never one to turn down a spiced rum and coke on a rare night out.
- My toxic trait? Thinking I’m never good enough, even when I know better, even when I’m told otherwise. Working on it.
What Don’t I Love?
The pressure to be anything other than exactly who I am. I want realness, rawness, and honesty. The idea that we need to hide our messes or our true selves to be more “acceptable” is something I’ll always struggle with (yes, I get it! I’m not exactly showing my face). We all have flaws, inconsistencies, and things we’re still figuring out, and that’s what makes us human. Striving to be better, to grow, or to improve is crucial, but it should always be for our own sake and not because we feel we need to conform to someone else’s idea of who we should be. Embracing who we are, flaws and all, while still allowing room for personal growth, that’s what should matter.

So, where am I headed?
I’m still figuring it out, to be honest. However, I know I want to build something meaningful, established through social connection, digital creativity, and perhaps storytelling. Maybe it’s time to launch my OnlyFans account? Joking! Seriously, though, whether it’s launching my NSFW company, AfterDark Media, to support NSFW creators or quietly writing dark romance scenes at 2 am, it’s still very much all a work in progress as impostor syndrome always slaps me around the face when I want to hit publish, this is just the first step!
If you have any thoughts or advice, feel free to drop a comment, send me an email, or give me a follow on Instagram. I’d love to hear from you!
If you’re still reading, thank you! I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s turn the page together and start a fresh chapter!
With love and too much caffeine,
Gem x
